This article will review some common reasons and solutions for students that are unable to access assignments.
1. The module the assignment is under is not published.
Typically, if this is the case the students will see the error "This assignment is part of an unpublished module".
If this is the case here is how you can publish the module:
1. Go to the course where the students are having the issue accessing the assignment
2. In the sidebar of that course, click Modules and go to the Module where the assignment is located.
3. To publish the module, click the symbol indicating the unpublished module. The symbol should switch to a green check mark identical to the one beside the published assignment.
This is an example of a published assignment in an unpublished module. The unpublished Module would be Module 9 Formative Assessment and the published assignment would be Unit 2 Presentational Formative. A published module will have a green check mark like the one next to Unit 2 Presentational Formative.
Both the assignment and the module must be published to be accessed by students.
In some cases, you can choose if you want only the module published or the module and all items. When "Publish module only' is selected, you can choose to publish individual assignments and sub-modules as needed. You can also choose to unpublish the module and all assignments at once by selecting 'Unpublish modules and all items'.
2. Student Login/Access Issue.
Sometimes a student's information in Canvas is incorrect which could prevent them from completing an assignment or taking a test. Dasia, Nate, or Mel would need to update the student's information in this case - please contact Coursemojo Support.
3. Feature in Canvas in blocked by school.
In some cases a feature may be blocked by the school and/or district. In this case, the school's IT department would likely need to unblock. Please contact Coursemojo Support.
4. Student has an outdated Chromebook/Computer.
Check if the student can switch to a different machine. Ask the Learning Coach if the school IT staff can update or check the outdated machine.
