Owl guide for substitutes

With the Meeting Owl, students do not need to unmute themselves to speak; they can speak right into the Owl. Students should not even join Zoom audio on their Chromebooks.

• Download the Owl app from here
• Place the Owl on a desk in front of the classroom, with plenty of space (ideally 2+ feet) on all sides
• Plug both cords into the bottom of the Owl (the Owl comes with two cords: a power cord and a USB-C cord), and connect the other end of the USB-C cord to your computer
• Join the Zoom meeting
• Switch your microphone and camera to the meeting Owl here (it might say Meeting Owl Pro depending on the model you have):

• You can mute the Owl from the button at its base or by muting the microphone in Zoom

Owl advanced tips: You shouldn’t need to adjust any settings for the Owl to work, but in case audio or video issues do arise, you can:

• Adjust noise reduction to reduce the background noise in your classroom which reaches the Online Instructor
• Set an ignore zone to prevent the meeting Owl from highlighting particular areas of the room (this can be helpful if it continually highlights the Online Instructor projected on the board)
