When opening the gradebook of your course, you may notice that by default, the gradebook is filtered to view the current grading period. Here is how you can filter the gradebook based on Grading Period:
- Access the Gradebook: First, navigate to your course in Canvas and open the Gradebook.
- Locate the filter: At the top of the Gradebook, you will find the ‘Apply Filters’ option. Click on this to see various filtering options and select ‘Grading Periods’ as shown below.
- Select the Grading period: When clicking on the dropdown, you’ll see an option for ‘Grading Periods’. Clicking on this will display all the available grading periods for your course. (i.e. Q1, Q2, Q3….S1, S2)
- Choose your desired grading period: Select the grading period you wish to view. The Gradebook will then display only the grades relevant to the specific period.
- To view All Grading Periods, select the option highlighted below.
Other Important Notes:
- If you find yourself unable to edit the grades within a particular grading period, it could be because the grading period has been closed. In this case, feel free to reach out to the Support team to verify and help you understand the current grading period’s settings and timeline.
- It’s important to note that roll call attendance may not appear in the current or last grading period due to the way the due dates are set up. Ensure that the due dates for attendance are correctly aligned with your current grading period. I
- Assignments without a due date will not show up/be visible when initially viewing the gradebook since the gradebook initially filters by grading period. To view assignments without a due date select ‘All Grading Periods’ or view grades within Q4. Be sure to assign these assignments with a grading period so the learning coach is able to have accurate grades for the students as well as for easy viewing when looking at the gradebook.
If you face any other challenges or issues, the first step is always check your course settings and grading period dates. Also ensure all assignments have a due date. If the problem persists, feel free to reach out to any of the members of the Support Team (Mel, Dasia or Nate) so we can review and provide further assistance.
Default vs. Individual View:
Another filtering option you may notice is Default and Individual view. The default view shows all students at once. Individual View allows you to assess one student and one assignment at a time. Individual View currently does not support settings and options from the Gradebook.
